Opening remarks (Matt Nelson)
Treasurer’s report (Mark Dombroski)- 356 members; working balance is $42.323. No outstanding bills. 7 new members paid a membership.
Old Business
Treasurer’s report acceptance- Thomas McGoldrick motioned to accept the treasurers’ report, and Kerry Garceau seconded the motion; it passed.
Minutes acceptance- Joe Rabena made a motion to accept minutes, Thomas McGoldrick seconded the motion passed.
Hunters’ Safety Instructor Class (Tommy McGoldrick)- 23 members showed to the certification class. 8 people followed up with helping to teach a hunters safety class towards the completion of the certification. The next classes for the year are 9/14/24 and 11/30/24.
Corbett Aerial Photo Trip (Matt Nelson)- The photoshoot was completed successfully. Photos were taken to show the current state and healing of the Corbett WMA.
FSCA Pre-hunting Season Meeting (Matt Nelson)- It was a good meeting with much new information and communication about the current hunting season. Discussed the popularity of having it videoed and posted it online and how it reached other groups in the community. Discussed clarification of rules for the river and moving vessels (ex., attempting to take).
New Business
Tree Stand Set-Up Dates (Huntmasters)- Grassy Island and Arthur Marshall set ups were discussed. Plans were made for Sunday, 9/29/24, for Grassy Island.
Grant Update (Mark Dombroski)- 4 grants were written; Mark made follow-up correspondences to clarify the plan for how the grants would be used. No new updates currently.
Youth Day (Terrylynn Boatwright & Rachael Stroh)- Discussed continuing to look for sponsors for the event. Bishop discussed the plan to purchase bows and arrows for the archery portion. Plans for a follow-up conversation to seek pricing. Discussed our current supplies and what to focus on purchasing for the event (ammo, targets, bows & arrows, lifejackets, food).
Indian River Clay Shoot (Bishop Wright)- Discussed the motion that was made by Bishop Wright to sponsor the clay shoot.
Wrac Meeting (Matt Nelson)- Meeting was moved to the last Monday in October 10/28/24. Discussed progress with getting a pole barn/pavilion put in at Cornwell (Turkey Hammock Day Use Area). Plans are moving through legal currently.
Amendment 2 Info (Bishop Wright)- Discussed a meeting held last week by sponsors of Amendment 2. Also discussed the opposition and misinformation being spread regarding the bill.
FSCA Christmas Party (Matt Nelson)- Discussed if there will be a party and needing a place and date if so.
Items Not on the Agenda- Thomas McGoldrick discussed updates for the Corbett WMA grade and tearing up the milling on the north grade, going back to shell rock. FWC confiscated 10,000 lbs. of palmetto berries seized from illegal pickers. Discussed a possible proposal for FWC to allocate confiscated berry funds back into Corbett WMA. Bishop expressed the need for guides on the youth hunts.
