Follow-up to the JW Corbett 10 year management plan meeting, by Bishop Wright.
FSCA would like to thank everyone who took the time to attend this meeting. It was great to see users engaged in the discussion of the 10-year plan. While the process was lengthy and sometimes tedious, the information shared was essential.
So, what changes are coming in the next 10 years? They plan to conduct controlled burns during hunting season to increase the window of opportunity for land management. There is also a plan to eradicate all wild hogs in the area, which is concerning due to their role in the food chain.
Camping was mentioned, but not discussed in detail. However, it appears there will be new additions, such as a dump station and ADA-compliant campsites. The specifics of other changes to camping were not clarified.
There is a high level of concern regarding off-road vehicle (ORV) use. While the focus is on responsible recreational use, we must monitor and pay attention to this issue closely.
Hydrology and its impact on the connecting wildlife management areas were also discussed. A significant plan is to remove the blacktop on the north grade and revert it to a graded road.
Overall, the meeting was informative. Thanks to everyone who attended and asked questions. It’s encouraging to see sportsmen engaged in these discussions.
